Every Soul is on a mission to grow in consciousness through its experiences in physical form. It carefully plans these experiences by choosing the form in which it will manifest. Each form it takes is meant to give it insight into creation, since creation is the means by which it will come to know the Spirit intimately. If it is ignorant of a particular aspect of creation, it will choose to manifest in a body that will help it to understand it. You may have heard the saying you cannot judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes. Well, for the Spirit, that mile is a lifetime, perhaps many lifetimes in similar creations. In this way, the process of incarnation is just one big education for the Soul. And the experiences that it selects are the degree plan that it follows to achieve higher consciousness.
It is not that the Soul has to learn to overcome its ego. The Soul has no ego, and therefore, does not have to overcome pride or jealousy or any of the other trappings that our mind has created. However, the Soul faces the challenge of having to learn to identify itself in all of creation. The experiences it chooses, therefore, are designed to draw it into creation. It may take many, many incarnations to identify itself in the faces of so many, but its education is not on a timetable. The Universe provides it all the time and space it needs to accomplish its mission. And the Spirit, which created the Soul and set it free in the cosmos, doesn’t seem all that worried about time either. It waits patiently for the Soul to reach its maturity, assured by the energy of love that drives it. And so, like any good parent, the Spirit watches and waits and supports its creation until its education is complete.
